...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER POTENTIAL TODAY IN THE BERKSHIRES AND 

NORTHWESTERN CONNECTICUT...



The combination of southwest winds gusting to 25 to 35 mph, 

relative humidity as low as 35 to 40 percent, and a lack of 

significant rainfall over the past few days will lead to an 

elevated fire weather potential this afternoon.

...ELEVATED RISK FOR FIRE SPREAD TODAY...



The combination of drying fine fuels, southwest wind gusts 

as high as 25 to 35 mph, and relative humidity values as low as 

35 to 40 percent will lead to an elevated risk of fire spread this

afternoon for the eastern Catskills.



As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban remains in effect 

until May 14. No burn permits are issued. Use extra caution if 

handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or 

matches and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette 

butts. Please refer to the New York State Department of 

Environmental Conservation website for more information on burn 

restrictions.
