* WHAT...Lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 

  2 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.



* WHERE...Southern Herkimer County.



* WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Friday.



* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous 

  conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes.



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lake effect snow develops early this morning 

  and continues today into tonight. 2 to 6 inches of snow is 

  expected within the most persistent snow bands. Gusty winds will 

  lead to blowing and drifting of snow, which could create hazardous 

  travel conditions within the lake effect bands.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally 

heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can 

also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, 

visibility, and road conditions.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will 

  likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road 

  conditions.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in 

your vehicle in case of an emergency.



Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while 

driving. If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken 

on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and 

slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.
