The Flood Warning is cancelled for a portion of southern Illinois, 

including the following areas, Hamilton and Jackson.



Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat; however, many 

washouts may still restrict travel in some locations and low-lying 

areas may still be flooded. Please continue to heed remaining road 

closures and never drive around barricades.

...FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...



* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.



* WHERE...A portion of southern Illinois, including the following 

  counties, Franklin, Jefferson, Johnson, Perry, Pulaski, Union, 

  Wayne and Williamson.



* WHEN...Until 700 PM CDT.



* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying 

  and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water 

  crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable.



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 556 PM CDT, Even though the heavy rain has ended,

    substantial flooding continues across much of the warned

    area. Between 5 and 9 inches of rain have fallen since the

    start of the event on Wednesday. Only light drizzle is

    anticipated through this evening.

  - Flooding impacts will continue, with only minimal additional

    rainfall expected.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

    Marion, Mount Vernon, Herrin, West Frankfort, Benton, Du

    Quoin, Pinckneyville, Carterville, Fairfield, Anna, Johnston

    City, Christopher, Jonesboro, Vienna, Rend Lake Area, Sesser,

    Zeigler, Crainville, Cambria and Cobden.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.



Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 

dangers of flooding.



Do not drive around barriers and find alternate routes if flooding 

is observed.
