...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1115 PM EDT THIS EVENING...



* WHAT...Elevated river levels caused by excessive rainfall are 

  expected.



* WHERE...Portions of south central and southeast Kentucky, 

  including the following counties, in south central Kentucky, 

  Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne and Whitley. In 

  southeast Kentucky, Clay, Jackson, Knox, Lee and Owsley.



* WHEN...Until 1115 PM EDT.



* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. 



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 805 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to a

    line of thunderstorms moving in from the west. This will

    produce up to a quick half inch of rainfall in less than 30

    minutes. Excessive runoff will cause minor flooding of small

    streams and creeks, roads, and roadside culverts.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

    Somerset, London, Monticello, Williamsburg, Mount Vernon,

    McKee, Booneville, Whitley City, Boone, Science Hill,

    Burnside, Rockcastle Springs, Mount Victory, Baldrock, Bunch,

    Huxley, Holly Bay Rec. Area, Dykes, Billows and Bent.





PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.



Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 

dangers of flooding.
