The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  Southeastern Cook County in northeastern Illinois...

  Northwestern Lake IN County in northwestern Indiana...



* Until 1130 PM CDT.



* At 826 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 

  slow-moving thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned 

  area. Up to 4 inches have been reported thus far near Whiting. 

  Additional thunderstorms with rainfall rates of 3 to 4 inches per 

  hour will move into the area over the next hour, with additional 

  rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. 

  Worsening of flood severity is imminent.



  HAZARD...Significant flash flooding.



  SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.



  IMPACT...Rapid-onset, significant flooding of creeks, streams,

           drainage ditches, low-lying areas, and poor drainage

           areas. Widespread street and underpass flooding.

           Possible flooding of structures. Possible flooding of

           highways.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Chicago, Hammond, Gary, Calumet City, East Chicago, Lansing, 

  Munster, Dolton, South Holland, South Deering, Whiting, East Side, 

  Hegewisch, Riverdale and Burnham.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



A Flash Flood Warning means rapid-onset flooding is imminent or may 

already be occurring. Persons along creeks, drainage ditches, and 

other waterways should take immediate precautions to protect life 

and property.
