...Forecast flooding changed from Moderate to Major severity and 

increased in duration for the following rivers in Washington...



  Nooksack River At North Cedarville affecting Whatcom County.



  South Fork Nooksack River At Saxon Bridge affecting Whatcom 

  County.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.



Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 

dangers of flooding.



Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive 

cars through flooded areas.

...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL LATE TOMORROW EVENING...



* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. 

  This approaches the flood of record.



* WHERE...Nooksack River at North Cedarville.



* WHEN...Until late tomorrow evening.



* IMPACTS...At 150.0 feet, the Nooksack River will cause major near 

  record flooding downstream through Lynden. Deep and swift flood 

  waters will inundate farm lands...roads...and residential areas. 

  The flood may overtop levees. In addition...flood waters could 

  overflow and flood the Sumas drainage. Flooding will occur all 

  along the river including headwaters...tributaries...and other 

  streams within and near the Nooksack River Basin.



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 5:15 PM PST Wednesday the stage was 147.4 feet.

  - Flood stage is 146.5 feet.

  - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours

    ending at 5:15 PM PST Wednesday was 147.5 feet.

  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 150

    feet late this evening. It will then fall below flood stage

    early tomorrow afternoon.

* WHAT...Major flooding is forecast.



* WHERE...South Fork Nooksack River at Saxon Bridge.



* WHEN...Until tomorrow afternoon.



* IMPACTS...At 9.5 feet, the Nooksack River floodwaters will be  

  deep and swift...inundating farms, roads and residential areas 

  including the town of Acme.  Many roads will be impassable and 

  severe erosion may affect river banks. Flooding will occur all 

  along the river including headwaters...tributaries...and other 

  streams within and near the South Fork Nooksack River Basin.



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 5:00 PM PST Wednesday the stage was 6.7 feet.

  - Flood stage is 8.0 feet.

  - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage

    this evening to a crest of 11 feet late this evening. It will

    then fall below flood stage tomorrow morning.
