...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING...



* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.



* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, including the following 

  counties, Alexander, Gallatin, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, 

  Pulaski, Saline and Union and southeast Missouri, including the 

  following county, Cape Girardeau.



* WHEN...Until 900 PM CDT Monday.



* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying 

  and flood-prone locations is occurring. Numerous roads remain 

  closed in the area. The worst flooding appears to be around the 

  Cache River and Hubble Creek, but other smaller tributaries are 

  also flooding.



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - At 903 AM CDT, local law enforcement reported heavy rain in

    the warned area due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or

    expected to begin shortly. Between 6 and 10 inches of rain

    have fallen.

  - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is

    expected.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

    Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Harrisburg, Metropolis, Anna,

    Eldorado, Cairo, Jonesboro, Vienna, Shawneetown, Trail Of

    Tears State Park, Bollinger Mill State Historic Site, Cobden,

    Goreville, Galatia, Ridgway, Mounds, Dongola, Tamms and

    Equality.





PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 

deaths occur in vehicles.
