...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT TONIGHT...



* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.



* WHERE...Portions of east central and southeast Illinois, including 

  the following counties, in east central Illinois, Clark and 

  Cumberland. In southeast Illinois, Clay, Crawford, Effingham, 

  Jasper, Lawrence and Richland.



* WHEN...Until midnight CDT tonight.



* IMPACTS...Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. It 

  will take several hours for all the water from these storms to 

  work through local drainage systems in urban areas.



* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...

  - Earlier this afternoon,local law enforcement reported

    flooding in the warned area. Flooding is already occurring.

    Between 3 and 6 inches of rain have fallen.

  - Additional rainfall amounts will be light, but many roads in

    the area will still have standing or running water over them.

  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...

    Effingham, Olney, Robinson, Flora, Lawrenceville, Marshall,

    Newton, Casey, Neoga, Greenup, Toledo, Sumner, Altamont,

    Bridgeport, Teutopolis, Oblong, Palestine, Martinsville,

    Louisville and Clay City.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are 

potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded 

roads. Find an alternate route.



Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law 

enforcement and request they pass this information to the National 

Weather Service when you can do so safely.
