In 2016, five to seven inches of rain caused significant

flooding across Sedgwick and Butler counties.  Hardest

hit were the towns of Rose Hill and Mulvane, where most

of the rain occurred in just two hours.  Numerous water

rescues took place and some homes had to be evacuated. 

One person was killed when a pickup was washed off the

road in Butler county.

In 1987, severe thunderstorms that moved from Eastern

Nebraska to Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri produced

hail three inches in diameter and 80 mph winds.  The

three inch diameter hail bombarded Albion Nebraska,

located 25 miles southwest of Norfolk.	Baseball sized

hail struck just northwest of Topeka.  Especially hard

hit was Franklin County, where crop damage was around

$3.5 million and 10 people were injured.  Later the small

town of Fulton Kansas was whipped by 80 mph gusts.
