FXUS66 KSGX 240937 AFDSGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Diego CA 237 AM PDT Fri Oct 24 2025 .SYNOPSIS... Fair weather will continue across the region into next week. Warmer today followed by some cooling for the weekend. High pressure and periods of weak offshore flow will bring warmer and drier weather with a shallower marine layer for Monday into the end of next week. && .DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE... SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES... This morning...The marine layer is a little shallower, with patchy low clouds over the coastal areas and the Southern California Bight. The low clouds will likely increase a little in coverage before sunrise but offshore pressure gradients and diurnal drainage winds seem to be inhibiting the spread of the low clouds and fog which will be restricted to the coastal areas. A transient ridge of high pressure moving in from the west will bring noticeable warming for today. High temperatures will be near normal to as much as 7 degrees above normal. Temps will be in the 80s in the inland valleys and in the mid 90s in the low deserts. A low pressure trough moving inland to the north will displace the ridge to the east and bring cooler weather to SoCal, with highs becoming closer to normal for Sat and Sun. High-zonal flow aloft and stronger onshore flow at the sfc will produce gusty westerly winds, mainly for the mtns and deserts. Winds will peak on Sunday with the mtn passes and desert slopes likely to see wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph in the favored locations. The marine layer will deepen, allowing the onshore flow to push low clouds farther inland during the nights and mornings. The EC and GFS models remain in fairly good agreement through next week with regard to the synoptic pattern over the western US. High pressure aloft and periods of weak to moderate offshore flow will bring warmer conditions through next week. Next Wed will likely be the warmest day as the ridge amplifies before it weakens later in the week in response to a minor shortwave trough moving inland to the north. Wed high temps will be as much as 12 degrees above seasonal normals in the inland valleys where they will reach the low 90s. The ridge will reduce the depth of the marine layer and restrict any low clouds/fog to the coastal areas. For the first half of next week, the offshore flow could be strong enough to prevent marine layer low clouds/fog from moving ashore during the nights and mornings but this is still uncertain. && .AVIATION... 240930Z...Coast and western Valleys...Low clouds based at around 800- 1200 feet MSL will gradually increase in coverage through 15Z.
