FXUS66 KPDT 050452 AFDPDT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pendleton OR 952 PM PDT Mon May 4 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... 1. Dry and above normal temperatures through the week 2. Pattern change next weekend will bring precipitation back to the region && .DISCUSSION... Radar is quite and current satellite shows some cumulus clouds forming along the ridgetops in central and eastern OR. Otherwise, the remaining areas are seeing clear skies. Temperatures today are expected to be warm in the low to mid 80s through central OR, foothills of the Blues, Yakima and Kittitas Valley and the eastern mountains. The Basin and the Gorge are the locations seeing temperature in the upper 80s. 80-90% of the NBM raw ensembles are in agreement with the temperatures. Models show the upper level ridge over the region and persisting through at least Friday. Temperatures will continue to be 10-15 degrees above seasonal normal according to in house calculations. Temperatures will be in the low 80s through the Basin, Gorge, Yakima Valley and portions of north central OR while the remaining areas will see high 70s with high confidence (70-90%). Temperatures will remain well above seasonal normal through the remainder of the week. By Thursday, models show an upper level trough beginning to make its way towards the coast. By Friday the trough is expected to dig its way into the PacNW breaking down the ridge. Clusters are showing some variation with the timing and position of the trough. So confidence is low (30-40% confidence) at this point as to if it will break the ridge down enough to bring chances of thunderstorms or even light rain to the Cascades. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z WEDNESDAY/... VFR conditions continue to prevail through the rest of the forecast period. Periodic wind shifts will occur at most sites, although winds expected to remain mostly less than 12 knots. Slightly breezier conditions of 15 to 25 mph gusts is still occurring in DLS, but will lessen once we get through the mid to later morning hours.
