A warming trend will continue this week with afternoon temperatures approaching 20 to 25 degrees above average today through Saturday. 2. Daily and monthly record high maximum temperatures will continue to be challenged Friday. 3. Temperatures drop on Sunday but will remain above average through much of next week. 4. Practice cold water safety, as waterways will be running cold and fast over the next several days. && .DISCUSSION... More record temperatures were broken Thursday but many spots backed off a degree or two from Wednesday's record. Latest NBM probabilities has Friday breaking more records with a 20 to 30 percent chance of 95 degrees or higher in the Valley. Bakersfield has a 10 percent chance of the first triple digits of the year. The Desert has a 60 to 80 percent chance of highs of at least 95 degrees for Friday. Temperatures back off on Saturday as the ridge moves east and begins to flatten as the Valley has a 60 to 70 percent chance of 90 degrees or higher. Sunday sees the biggest drop off as the flow becomes zonal and even a shortwave trough passes through Southern California. There is a 65 to 75 percent chance of highs of at least 85 degrees on Sunday. The workweek looks to continue the warm trend as the ridge rebuilds with Monday through Wednesday has a 25 to 50 percent chance of high temperatures of 90 degrees before dropping to 20 to 30 percent on Thursday. The CPC outlooks continue to have very strong signals of above average temperatures (70 to 90 percent) along with below average precipitation. && .AVIATION... VFR conditions are expected for the next 24 hours. && .FIRE WEATHER... Warm air temperatures and steady dew point temperatures will lead to a decrease in minimum relative humidities, especially for the Mojave Desert, high Sierra, and Coastal Range. This will coincide with a sharp decrease in 100- and 1000-hr dead fuel moistures and an increase in ERC in these areas. Rapid curing of fine fuels will bring about some risk for isolated grass fires. However, live fuel moisture remains below critical thresholds and significant wild fire potential remains at little or no risk. && .AIR QUALITY ISSUES... None. && .CERTAINTY...
