FXUS66 KEKA 201901 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 1201 PM PDT Sat Jun 20 2026 .SYNOPSIS...Generally cool and moist conditions continue today with isolated thunderstorms possible again in northern and eastern Trinity County. Warmer and drier conditions are likely early to mid next week. && .KEY MESSAGES... - Isolated thunderstorms are possible again in Trinity County this afternoon. - Warming trend for the interior returns Sunday into next week. && .DISCUSSION...Ample low cloud cover blanketed the area this morning with moisture brought in from yesterday's storms. An upper level trough moving through the Pacific Northwest continues to move slowly eastward, bringing much of the moisture with it. There is some lingering instability in eastern Trinity, mainly in the Trinity Horn and the Yolla Bollys. Moisture is more limited today, but still, isolated dry thunderstorms are possible. Gusty, erratic winds and small hail are possible within stronger storms. High temperatures rebound slightly today with 70s and 80s likely for most interior valleys, but high pressure more firmly begins to set up over the area Sunday. High temperatures rise into the high 80s and 90s over the area. Temperatures continue to rise into early next week with triple digits possible for the warmest valleys by Monday. This warming trend is likely to continue through at least mid week. Troughing to the north of the area on Tuesday could bring additional chances of interior thunderstorms. Confidence is not high as instability and moisture currently look meager, but this will need to be watched. Otherwise, dry and warm interior conditions are likely for much of next week. JB && .AVIATION...(18Z TAFs)...IFR to MVFR ceilings are being observed at the coastal terminals, but will likely lift and scatter this evening. Inland areas will generally clear this afternoon, aside from isolated thunderstorms in eastern Trinity County. IFR to MVFR stratus will likely return tonight to the coastal terminals. UKI may see stratus as well (40% chance), but the marine layer may not be deep enough despite prevailing south winds. JB && .MARINE...Northerly winds gradually increase today into Sunday with near-gale force gusts likely in the lee of Cape Mendocino and Cape Blanco by Sunday afternoon. Seas that are currently dominated by a diminishing mid period NW swell of around 5 to 7 ft will become more dominated by steep wind waves. Steep wind waves may propagate into the inner waters too, even as winds nearshore remain light. Winds diminish Monday into Tuesday, especially nearshore, but stronger winds return mid to late next week. JB && .EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CA... None. NORTHWEST CALIFORNIA COASTAL WATERS... Small Craft Advisory from 5 AM Sunday to 11 AM PDT Monday for PZZ450. Small Craft Advisory from 5 AM Sunday to 3 AM PDT Monday for PZZ455.
