FXUS66 KEKA 071057 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 357 AM PDT Mon Apr 7 2025 .SYNOPSIS...Occasional light rain showers continue today. Additional light rain and breezy south wind in Del Norte Tuesday. Warm and dry weather returns to the interior midweek. && .DISCUSSION...An area of low pressure continues to spin off the coast of Oregon early this morning. Occasional rain showers continue today as the low moves onshore. Snow levels drop behind the low this morning to around 5000-6000 ft, which could bring a rain/snow mix to Highway 3 at Scott Mountain Pass if any showers pass through. Another shortwave passes to our north Tuesday, which brings a chance of light rain primarily for Del Norte. NBM probabilities for a 0.1 inch Tuesday is around 30-40% for much of Del Norte and probabilities are much lower to the south. Breezy winds of up to 35 mph are possible for exposed ridges and coastal headlands of Del Norte Tuesday. Outside Del Norte, high dew points will bring areas of valley fog Tuesday, which will also reduce the risk of a widespread frost or freeze. NBM probabilities for temperatures lower than 36 is less than 20% in all valleys outside Trinity county. Ridging builds in midweek, bringing warm, sunny weather to the interior. The NBM probabilities for 80s are 30-40% for some valleys including Weaverville, Hayfork, Covelo, Ukiah, and Middletown. Another shortwave moves in Friday, which likely only brings some cloud cover to the area. The chance for any measurable precipitation is highest in Del Norte at around 50%, with much lower probabilities to the south. Ensembles diverge into the weekend, with a roughly 50/50 split between ridging and troughing, though no significant systems are obvious on the horizon. JB && .AVIATION...Precipitation has been diminishing overnight with periodic IFR ceilings and visibilities in mist and low clouds. IR satellite imagery showed another cloud feature extending southward from a cyclonic circulation west Cape Blanco early this morning. High resolution models and HREF mean indicate light precip increasing again this morning as this feature intersects the coastal terrain. The light precip will most likely result in continued IFR for the coastal terminals. Confidence coastal terminals will improve today is not high. Expect MVFR conditions. High humidity and moist ground will probably lead to IFR in mist and/or low clouds. S-SW winds remain gusty at KCEC, 22-30kt til 07/18Z, decreasing this afternoon and evening. Gusty conditions return with approach of another trough line after 08/06z. DB && .MARINE...SW winds early this morning north of Cape Mendo diminish today. Another trough expected to bring another increase in SW wind late tonight into Tue. Strongest winds near Pt St George with possible gusts to 30 kt. Winds go light and NW on Wed. Another trough approaches Thu, south winds generally on the light side. North to northwest winds strengthen on Friday. Seas expected to remain hazardous around 10 feet today due to a combo of westerly swell and short period SW waves. A secondary reinforcement of the westerly swell will arrive late this afternoon and evening and seas will probably remain elevated and hazardous near 10 ft. Gentle to moderate northwest winds and lower steep seas expected on Wednesday. Southerly winds to return on Thursday, but is not looking like a major storm at this point. Stronger northerlies and steeper NW waves on Friday will likely become hazardous for inexperienced mariners. Gale force northerlies possible over the weekend.
