FXUS65 KVEF 192344 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 444 PM PDT Thu Mar 19 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Heat headlines remain in effect as an unprecedented March heatwave continues into next week. && .DISCUSSION...through Wednesday. All of the monthly records that were broken yesterday will be overwritten today and tomorrow as temperatures continue to climb. Temperatures across the region will peak on Friday, with a relative "cool down" over the weekend as the ridge weakens. Even with this relative decrease in temperatures over the weekend into early next week, we will still be around 20 degrees hotter than normal. Given the prolonged nature of these record breaking temperatures, the Heat Advisory for the southern Great Basin and Extreme Heat Warning for the Mojave Desert will remain in effect until Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The ridge of high pressure will rebound next week, with hotter than normal temperatures looking to stick around for at least another week. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Light winds under 8 knots will continue through Friday. Typical southwest winds return after sunset, followed by northeast to east winds Friday afternoon. Very warm temperatures are expected through the weekend with afternoon highs climbing above 90 degrees each day. There is a 20 percent chance temperatures reach or exceed 100 degrees Friday, then a 10 percent chance Saturday. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Gusty northerly winds will continue down the Colorado River Valley for a few more hours before decreasing to less than 10 knots by mid-evening.
