FXUS65 KVEF 110516 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 916 PM PST Wed Dec 10 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Warmer than normal temperatures will continue through the end of the week, along with periods of breezy northerly winds down the Colorado River Valley this afternoon. * Temperatures will gradually cool over the weekend and early next week, but conditions will remain dry although a few snow showers will be possible in the high Sierra. && .DISCUSSION...through next Wednesday. A broad ridge of high pressure will remain over the region into this weekend bringing us well above normal temperatures and clear skies. Winds will be light over most of the area, but a tight surface gradient over the lower Colorado River Valley continues to bring gusty north winds to areas south of Davis Dam. Wind gusts near Laughlin/Bullhead City have generally been around 40 mph and this is expected to continue into this evening before winds diminish late. Waves of 1-3 feet will be possible from Laughlin/Bullhead City to Needles and any outdoor recreation and marine interests should continue to use extra caution. Pressure gradients will weaken Thursday and although a few wind gusts to around 20 mph will be possible south of Davis Dam, overall winds speeds will be much lower. Over the weekend and early next week, the ridge will flatten as a shortwave embedded within the mean flow tracks across southern California, Arizona, and northern Mexico. While no precipitation is anticipated with this feature for most areas, an increase in high cloud cover is expected, which will also help lower temperatures by several degrees. A slight increase in moisture levels moving into central California early next week may bring a few light snow showers to the higher elevations of the Sierra in northern Inyo County. At this point, snow amounts look to remain less than a couple of inches. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 06Z Forecast Package...Light winds and clear skies continuing through the TAF period.
