FXUS65 KSLC 210414 AFDSLC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT 1014 PM MDT Fri Mar 20 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - High pressure will continue to bring historically warm weather for March through Saturday. Daytime maximum temperatures will challenge monthly records. - A dry cold front will bring a brief cooling trend Sunday, though daytime highs will remain 10 to 20 degrees above normal. - Near record temperatures will return by Tuesday into Wednesday. - There is less than a 5 percent chance of measurable precipitation for the next 7 days across most of Utah and southwest Wyoming. && .DISCUSSION...Strong high pressure over the area today will begin to flatten and shift east on Saturday as a couple of low- amplitude waves ripple from west to east near the Canadian border. While H7 temperatures will cool slightly on Saturday as heights fall, mixing will increase in many areas due to increased west to southwesterly flow, which will help maintain surface temperatures around 25 degrees above normal, with many areas once again expected to break daily temperature records. A dry cold front will spread south into Utah Saturday night into Sunday, resulting in temperatures trending around 10-15 degrees cooler across northern Utah and up to 8 degrees cooler across southern Utah for Sunday. However, this would only lower temperatures to 10-20 degrees above normal. Thereafter, temperatures will rebound, with daily record highs a strong possibility for many sites once again especially by midweek. The NBM has a 54% chance of SLC returning to at least 80F on Tuesday, and a 78% chance on Wednesday. Another dry cold front looks like a possibility for Thursday, although some of the latest deterministics are less enthusiastic with this solution. Overall model trends do continue to indicate a cooling trend, but model spread remains fairly large. The NBM 25th-75th percentile range for the max temperature at SLC on Thursday is 63-78F. However, even at the lower end of the probabilistic spectrum, we are once again still looking at above- normal values for this time of year. && .AVIATION...KSLC...Clear to mostly clear skies with prevailing VFR and light diurnally typical winds hold into Saturday evening. High clouds will begin to increase ahead of a dry cold frontal boundary, which will move through around 02Z to 05Z Sunday. This will be marked by a period of modest enhancement to NW wind magnitudes. .REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Area terminals once again can expect the TAF period to see prevailing VFR conditions, skies generally clear to mostly clear, and largely diurnally normal winds. High clouds will begin to increase as a dry cold front sags south later Saturday. This front will begin to push through northern terminals Saturday evening, bringing a period of slightly enhanced N to NW winds. && .SLC WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... UT...None.
