FXUS65 KSLC 191725 AFDSLC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Salt Lake City UT 1125 AM MDT Thu Mar 19 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - High pressure will bring historically warm weather for March through Saturday. Daytime max temperatures will challenge monthly maximum temperature records as they approach 30 degrees above seasonal normals. - A dry cold front will bring a brief cooling trend Sunday, though daytime highs will remain 10 to 15 degrees above normal. - A return to near record temperatures is expected early next week as high pressure returns to the region. && .DISCUSSION...Strong high pressure still resides over the Desert Southwest, resulting in the anomalously warm, record-breaking temperatures we've experienced already. As this ridge continues to nudge northward, temperatures today will be largely 2-4 degrees warmer than yesterday, threatening more records across Utah and southwest Wyoming. While Salt Lake City fell one degree short of the March maximum temperature record yesterday, there will be 3 more chances to exceed 80F: today, tomorrow, and Saturday. Many sites are likely to break daily or monthly records as temperatures rise another 2-4 degrees heading into Friday. A dry cold front moving through Sunday will produce a drop in temperatures, however with such warm antecedent conditions, temperatures will still be around 10-15 degrees above normal. Ridging will be quick to return, with temperatures rebounding early next week through at least Wednesday. Forecast uncertainty increases after Wednesday, with models trending towards another dry, but stronger storm system potentially bringing cooler temperatures later in the work week. && .AVIATION...KSLC...VFR conditions will persist for the KSLC terminal through the period.
