Seasonably mild and dry conditions continue today before a cooler, windier, and wetter pattern arrives over the weekend with an incoming storm system. High temperatures will run around 4-8 degrees above average today with afternoon highs reaching the mid-70s for western Nevada and mid-60s for Sierra valleys. Southwesterly winds will begin to pickup this afternoon with the breeziest conditions, gusts 25-30 mph, expected mainly north of Susanvile-Pyramid Lake. WEEKEND STORM SYSTEM: Wind: * As this storm system continues to trend drier, winds will emerge as the main widespread impact on Saturday afternoon. Wind Advisories have been issued for Saturday, mainly for areas roughly northward of US-50. * These areas could see wind gusts of 40-50 mph with wind prone areas along US-395/I-580 seeing gusts of 60+ mph. Sierra ridgetop gusts could reach 100 mph as 700 mb flow increases to 50-60 kt. Expect impacts for outdoor recreation, aviation, and cross wind hazards for high profile vehicles, with areas of blowing dust downwind of deserts and sinks in west central NV. Precipitation: * A drying trend has been the theme with this storm over the last several days and the best prospects for rainfall will largely be confined northward of US-50 in the Sierra with W.NV becoming largely shadowed out. Most likely amounts ranging from 0.25-0.50", with locally up to 0.65" near the Sierra crest. * Far western NV continues to look largely shadowed out from notable rain, with amounts 0.05" or less, with little to no precipitation forecasted for northern Mono County. Snowfall potential through Saturday evening is also limited to less than 2 inches on Sierra passes above 8000-8500 feet. * A secondary, weaker pulse of moisture will push through on Sunday from the Tahoe Basin northward which could produce an additional 0.15-0.30" of rain. Up to 1-2" of snow may fall above 7500 feet around the Tahoe Basin and N.Mono County. Elsewhere, rain totals of a few hundredths of inch are possible. Temperatures: * By Sunday, temperatures will be around 10-15 degrees below average, with mostly 50s in western NV and low-mid 40s for the E.Sierra. We'll start a slow warming trend Monday through the middle of next week with drier weather. Fuentes && .AVIATION... VFR conditions expected Friday, except for patchy FZFG producing IFR/LIFR conditions around KTRK between 12-16Z this morning. Winds will begin to increase Friday afternoon with gusts 15-20 kt at the main terminals. FL100 winds will increase further Friday night with gusts increasing to 60 kt, leading to increased turbulence and periods of LLWS. Peak wind impacts to aviation are expected Saturday with more widespread turbulence and shear as FL100 wind gusts increase to near 80 kt while surface gusts increase to 30-40 kt, and possibly above 40 kt for far western NV terminals. Periods of rain will bring lower CIGS/VIS at times with mountain top obscurations to KTVL/KTRK during the day Saturday mainly between 12Z-00Z. MJD/TF && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories...
