.KEY MESSAGES...



- Shifting Pattern Tomorrow: An upper-level trough and a 

  "backdoor" cold front will move into the area, bringing 

  showers and cooler temperatures for Tuesday and Wednesday.



- Breezy Winds & Lake Advisory: Gusty northeast winds are 

  expected tomorrow, which has resulted in the issuance of a 

  Lake Wind Advisory.



- Freeze Potential: Northerly flow will usher in much cooler 

  air, potentially requiring a Freeze Warning for parts of 

  eastern Idaho early Wednesday morning.



- Warming Trend Returns: High pressure will build late this 

  week and into the weekend, returning temperatures to above- 

  normal levels.

A gorgeous spring afternoon is currently in progress across 

eastern Idaho, with satellite imagery showing mostly clear skies

and temperatures warming comfortably into the 60s and 70s. This

tranquil weather will begin to shift this evening as showers 

develop over the higher terrain. High-resolution models indicate

these showers will linger through the overnight hours and into 

Tuesday as an upper-level trough and a backdoor cold front push 

into the region.



The arrival of this front will lead to a noticeably cooler 

Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition to the temperature drop, 

breezy northeast winds will develop tomorrow, prompting the 

issuance of a Lake Wind Advisory. By Wednesday morning, 

northerly flow aloft will bring the coldest air of this stretch 

into the region, and a Freeze Warning may be necessary for 

portions of eastern Idaho.



Precipitation is expected to taper off for most locations after

tomorrow, though a few isolated showers may persist in the

eastern highlands. A warming trend will begin mid-week as a

high-pressure ridge builds over the Intermountain West. This

setup will allow above-normal temperatures to return late in the

workweek and persist into early next week, keeping most of the

region dry.

A cold front moving through Eastern Idaho is bringing spotty 

showers and a few isolated thunderstorms this evening, so 

PROB30 and VCSH for SUN, DIJ, PIH, and IDA does, too. Shower 

chances increase at BYI tonight. Expect VFR conditions at all 

sites unless a shower or storm tracks directly over a terminal, 

then drops to MVFR CIG or VIS would be more likely. There will 

be a period of dry time Tuesday morning before another round of 

some afternoon showers and storms generally around SUN and BYI. 

Northeast winds will be breezy on Tuesday with gusts of 20-30 

kts at all sites.
