FXUS65 KLKN 190701 AAA AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion...Updated National Weather Service Elko NV 1201 AM PDT Thu Mar 19 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Record warmth is expected across all of Northern and Central Nevada each afternoon today through Saturday * Dry weather will persist through at least the upcoming weekend && .UPDATE... Issued at 1201 AM PDT Thu Mar 19 2026 The current forecast is on track. No updates are needed. && .DISCUSSION... (Today through Wednesday) WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: High pressure continues to make its home over the American Southwest through the end of the week. Temperatures continue to soar as a result, with every record site expected to smash their previous record through at least Friday (see climate section below). A slight reprieve from the unseasonable warmth occurs this weekend as the high travels south into Mexico and flow over Nevada returns to near zonal. This is not expected to stop the broken records, especially for Tonopah, but temperatures are expected to drop to near or at historical record levels, instead of up to ten degrees above record. Ridging is expected to rebuild early next week and temperatures will continue to slowly climb with the broken records likely continuing through at least Tuesday. Model guidance is showing some early indications for a shift to cooler and wetter weather mid next week but this will need to be watched for at least another day or two before anything substantial can be said. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: High confidence in continued high pressure and broken records through Friday and for a slight cool down this weekend. Overnight low temperatures were decreased in colder valleys through Saturday morning as the NBM has been consistently too warm in those areas. && .AVIATION... VFR condtions persists at all terminals thru the next 24 hours as high pressure remains in control across the Great Basin. Winds will be light, around 10KT or less. && .CLIMATE... Strong high pressure will continue to bring record breaking temperatures across the area, with the most notable example in Tonopah tomorrow, where temperatures are forecast to reach ten degrees above the previous record temperature.
