FXUS65 KFGZ 192037 AFDFGZ Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff AZ 137 PM MST Thu Mar 19 2026 .SYNOPSIS...Arizona will roast under a summer-like high pressure cell, with temperatures reaching 20 to 30 degrees above normal for the remainder of this week and into the weekend. Please exercise appropriate precautions if you are planning on any outdoor activity through the weekend. && .DISCUSSION...A strong high pressure system will dominate Arizona weather. High pressure will be strongest on Friday then gradually weaken and meander southward through next Tuesday or Wednesday. As a result, high temperatures will peak out on Friday then gradually lower through the middle of next week. In any case, look for high temperatures 20-30 degrees above average through the period. Fairly unbelievably, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Sunday for elevations below 4000 feet across Arizona. Starting Saturday, as the high center makes it's slow move southward, pressure gradients will strengthen with gusty southwest winds at 10-20 mph developing each afternoon, especially over the higher terrain. && .AVIATION...Thursday 19/18Z through Friday 20/18Z...VFR conditions, no precipitation expected. Winds light and variable 5-10kts daytime, light and variable or terrain driven, especially at KSEZ with winds NE 10-15kts between 03Z-15Z. OUTLOOK...Friday 20/18Z through Sunday 22/18Z...VFR conditions, no precipitation expected. Daytime winds SW-W 5-15kts Friday, SW 15-25kts Saturday. Daytime temperatures 20-30 degrees above normal each day, with large diurnal swings at night. Winds SW-W 5 to 15 mph Friday, becoming SW 15-25 mph on Saturday. With increased winds and afternoon RH values down between 5-10%, fire weather concerns may be enhanced on Saturday. Sunday through Tuesday...Expect temperatures to decrease slightly by Sunday or Monday, but still remain at least 20 degrees above normal. Winds SW-W to 10-20 mph each day.
