Protect sensitive vegetation. - Trending warmer Wednesday through the end of the week, with additional chances for showers/thunderstorms. && .DISCUSSION... Rest of Today through Next Tuesday... The axis of an upper trough over the midwest, along with a weak wave moving south out of Canada, will continue bringing mid- upper divergence over the Northern Rockies into Wednesday. Isolated to scattered rain/snow showers across the lower elevations, and snow showers across the foothills and mountains. For the mountains, northerly upslope flow will bring 2-6 inches of snowfall with locally greater amounts at the highest elevations. In the immediate foothill locations, including Red Lodge, the latest forecast has up to an inch of snowfall into Wednesday morning. Precipitation accumulations with any showers across the lower elevations will be light. A rumble of thunder or two is possible with heavier showers, mainly west of Billings. These showers could produce graupel or brief periods of intense snow, with the main impacts being quick reductions in visibility and slick roads. Tonight, the trough axis will move eastward, allowing for ridging to begin to build into the region Wednesday into Thursday. Concurrently, a surface high will drop into Montana from Canada, bringing colder overnight temperatures in the 20s to low 30sF. Make sure to protect any sensitive vegetation. With the ridging, near normal temperatures and dry conditions prevail through Wednesday, with highs in the 50s to mid 60sF and minimum relative humidity values in the teens to low 20s percent. Thursday, unsettled northwest flow returns over the region, with a shortwave shown by models moving through midday. This currently looks to bring an increased chance for rain showers and a few thunderstorms. The latest forecast has a low to moderate chance for at least 0.1" of liquid precipitation into Friday, greatest over the central zones and mountains. Locally higher precipitation totals are possible with thunderstorms. Ridging very briefly returns on Friday before ensembles show an active system moving through the region late Friday into the weekend. While uncertainty remains with the strength and track there remains potential in increased shower and thunderstorm chances. Ridging looks to return once again for the beginning of next week. Temperatures are forecast to be in the 60s to lower 70s Thursday through Sunday, and 70s to 80s by Monday. Overnight lows in the upper 30s to 40s will be common most nights. Matos .AVIATION...
