FXUS64 KSJT 201854 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 154 PM CDT Sat Jun 20 2026 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... - Hot and humid conditions return for Sunday and Monday, with heat index values again climbing to near or above the 105 mark in some areas. A Heat Advisory may be needed. - Low chances (<30%) for scattered storms Monday night across the Big Country. Locally gusty winds and heavy rainfall will be the main concerns. - Hot and humid conditions persist next week, with a few showers and isolated thunderstorms possible during the afternoon to late evening hours across portions of the Big Country Tuesday through Thursday. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Sunday) Issued at 130 PM CDT Sat Jun 20 2026 The hot and fairly humid conditions West Central Texas experienced today will progress into Sunday with temperatures increasing into the lower 90s and up to 105, and dewpoint temperatures in the mid 60s to lower 70s. These higher dewpoint temperatures with the hot high temperatures Sunday afternoon will create dangerously high heat index values between 105 and 108 degrees across portions of the Big Country and Concho Valley. Therefor, a Heat Advisory has been issued for 1PM through 10PM Sunday for Much of the Big Country and western and central portions of the Concho Valley tomorrow. There is a slight chance for isolated showers and sub- severe thunderstorms this afternoon across our southeastern counties, given the ample moisture and diurnal heating. Overnight lows tonight will struggle to fall below the mid to low 70s across much of West Central Texas. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through next Saturday) Issued at 130 PM CDT Sat Jun 20 2026 Main weather story will be the persistence of the hot and humid conditions through Monday, as the upper-level ridge remains in place across the West Central Texas. Overnight lows Sunday night into Monday morning will be in the mid to upper 70s, with some areas nearing 80 in the western and central portions of the Big Country. High temperatures on Monday will range in the mid 90s to around 105, with heat index values in the triple digits across much of the area. A Heat Advisory will likely be required on Monday for portion of the Big Country, Concho Valley, and Heartland with heat index values in the 105 to 108 degree range. However, there is some potential for portions of the western Big Country and western Concho Valley reaching up to 110 degrees, which may require a Extreme Heat Warning. We will continue to monitor the situation for heat hazards on Monday. Upper level ridge builds across the Southwest US for mid week, creating a little more northwest flow aloft. A shortwave disturbance tracking through the area from the north Monday afternoon/evening into Tuesday could provide enough support to initiate convection over portions of the Big Country. Best precipitation chances for the Big Country will be Monday night into early Tuesday morning. With a similar setup for Tuesday and Wednesday, there are low to medium chances for showers and isolated thunderstorms again Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon and evening Temperatures remain hot through the rest of the week, but models do suggest a little drying as wet soils dry out. This may be enough to drop heat index values back down to roughly match actual temperatures and below heat advisory criteria. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1209 PM CDT Sat Jun 20 2026 Generally VFR conditions are expected this afternoon with southerly winds around 10KT. A brief shower or thunderstorm could occur near Junction and/or Brady, but confidence was low so this was not included in either TAF site. Ragged MVFR ceilings should develop late tonight between 08-12Zfor southern terminals then should improve by around 15Z tomorrow. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
