(This evening through Friday) Issued at 140 PM CDT Thu Mar 19 2026 Friday begins a string of days in which high temperatures at both Abilene and San Angelo will be in jeopardy of being tied or broken. Upper level ridging centered over the Desert Southwest will be the primary synoptic feature influencing our weather. In addition, the low level thermal ridge is forecast to expand eastward and strengthen across our area on Friday. High temperatures are forecast to surge well into the mid to upper 90s across the Big Country and Concho Valley where 850 mb temperatures will be highest. There is a medium to high chance (~50-80%) of records being exceeded at both Abilene and San Angelo. The records for Abilene and San Angelo: 94 (1916) & 91 (2017), respectively. && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through next Thursday) Issued at 1248 PM CDT Thu Mar 19 2026 Expect record heat across west central Texas this weekend as a large dome of high pressure will expand across the southwest US into the Southern Plains. The 500 MB heights will be between 595 and 600 across the southwest US. Also, a low level thermal ridge will extend across northwest Texas into the Big Country with highs around 100 Saturday and Sunday. The rest of the area will see highs in the 90s. The current monthly record high for March is 98 at both Abilene and San Angelo, which will probably be broken.
