FXUS64 KSJT 071707 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 1207 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - This week will be quiet for our area weather-wise, with overall temperatures much warmer and dry conditions. && .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 254 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 We have a chilly start to the day with temperatures around freezing across west central Texas. Surface high pressure is currently in place across the region while the backside of an upper-level trough was providing downward motion. This is resulting in clear skies with light and variable winds this morning. Both of these features will start to move southeastward and allow skies to be sunny throughout the day today. The 850mb thermal ridge should strengthen from the west, which should result in high temperatures in the upper 60s to around 70 this afternoon. Tonight, winds will generally shift out of the south, but remain light, as the surface high pressure center continues pushing to the southeast. Another night of clear skies is expected with low temperatures only falling to around 40. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday through Sunday) Issued at 302 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 After one more chilly start to the day, temperatures will make a strong recovery on Tuesday with sunny skies, dry air in place and the development/increase of south-southwest winds. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Wednesday will be sunny, warm and breezy with southwest winds. A cold front will move south into the northern Big Country by late afternoon. Afternoon highs are generally expected to be in the mid to upper 80s across our area, but with compressional warming effects ahead of the front, cannot rule out a couple of lower 90s in portions of the Concho Valley. An upper trough is forecast to dig southeast across the Midwest Wednesday night into Thursday, and the aforementioned cold front will move south across our area Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The NAM is faster with the progression of this front, bringing it south of I-10 by sunrise Thursday. The GFS is several hours slower with the timing, and awaits a secondary push to take the front south of our area by midday Thursday. Either way, expect north to northeast winds behind the front. Highs Thursday will be several degrees cooler across the Big Country, while our southern counties see highs only a couple of degrees cooler. Little temperature change is expected Friday, when a surface high pressure ridge will shift east of our area. Temperatures will be much warmer next weekend, with no rain expected. The southern portion of an upper level ridge is progged to shift east into Texas Saturday, and across the state Sunday. Lee surface trough development to our west and a tightened pressure gradient will result in gusty south winds for our area. Expect highs to be in the mid to upper 80s Saturday, and upper 80s to mid 90s Sunday. With nocturnal south-southwest low-level jet and some overnight low-level moisture transport, southern and southeastern parts of our area should have some early morning low clouds Sunday and Monday. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1145 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 Light winds and VFR conditions will prevail through most of the next 24 hours. Expect south winds at KABI to increase to 12 knots, with higher gusts, by late morning Tuesday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
