Updated at 213 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 - Near freezing morning temperatures and below-normal afternoon temperatures on Monday. - Warm and sunny weather with temperatures near to above normal beginning on Tuesday and lasting into at least next weekend. No rain is expected. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Monday night) Issued at 213 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 WV imagery this afternoon shows the upper trough directly over West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. A widespread cu field has developed, mainly over West Texas, and this may play hob w/afternoon highs. Tonight, these clouds will diminish after sundown, with mostly clear skies promoting efficient radiational cooling and paving the way for another chilly night. However, northwest winds are forecast to back to southwest, ending CAA and keeping temperatures a little warmer than they otherwise would be. Overnight minimums should average 5-10 F below normal. Monday, flow aloft will be meridional in the wake of the exiting trough, and thicknesses will increase substantially under sunny skies. Despite a weak front veering west winds to northwest during the afternoon, highs will still jump almost 15 F over today's temperatures, topping out only ~ 5-10 F below normal. Monday night, under mostly clear skies, north winds will revert to south, w/return flow increasing boundary layer moisture ever-so slightly. Overnight lows should be only a couple of degrees below climatology. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday through Saturday) Issued at 213 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 Little change to the extended forecast as guidance for Tuesday onward continues to show temperatures warming above normal by Wednesday and holding in the 80s to low 90s nearly areawide through the coming weekend. Upper level ridging moves overhead and winds shift to the southwest allowing temperatures to warm well above normal. The transition to such a pattern means the coming week and next weekend will be dry. Rain chances will be near zero for the region. -Stickney && .AVIATION...
