(Today through Wednesday afternoon) Issued at 132 AM CDT Tue Aug 4 2026 Slightly above normal temperatures and dry conditions persist during the Short Term period as water vapor imagery shows an upper ridge of high pressure over the Desert Southwest. Subsequent sinking motion yields sunny skies and keeps rainfall out of the forecast areawide. Afternoon highs in the upper 90s to low 100s are expected today and tomorrow. Greening && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through Monday) Issued at 132 AM CDT Tue Aug 4 2026 The Long Term forecast remains unchanged. The upper-level ridge settles over the Four Corners region and strengthens by the middle of the week. West Texas and southeast New Mexico remain on the eastern/southeastern periphery of the ridge. As a result, highs across the area remain in the mid-to-upper 90s through the weekend (with 100 degree temperatures confined mainly to the river valleys). Lows settle in the mid 70s for most locations every night (60s in usual cool spots). Much of the area will remain dry through the period. However, disturbances rounding the edge of the ridge (coupled with upsloping winds) will allow for isolated showers and storms to develop mainly in the higher terrain and in far western portions of the area during the latter half of the week.
