FXUS64 KLZK 070540 AAA AFDLZK Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Little Rock AR 1240 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Tuesday) Issued at 249 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 Trailing H500 trough across the Southern Plains will continue to push east across the state from tonight through Monday morning. At the sfc, ridging in place to the NW will shift southeastward into the state. Sky conditions will be tough to clear, but portions of west and north Arkansas will likely see clearing before daybreak. Across these areas the coldest temperatures are expected, with some spots possibly falling below freezing Monday morning. Below normal temperatures will persist across the area through Tuesday as steep N/NW flow at the mid-levels will be seen across much of the middle of the country in the wake of a much stronger Great Lakes cyclone. This will allow the main sfc ridge located in south-central Canada to expand even farther south into Arkansas. This could provide another period of near-freezing temperatures and possible frost development Tuesday morning. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday Night through next Sunday) Issued at 249 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 The majority of the period does appear to be mainly dry with only minimal amounts of precipitation expected to aid in the drying process. While little additional precipitation is expected, it will still take time for flood waters to recede with major rivers likely staying in flood for the conceivable future. Pattern will initiate with broad NW flow aloft as flat upper ridging continues over the intermountain west with subsequent downstream along the Atlantic seaboard. Pattern remains both amplified and progressive through the period with another closed upper low dropping into into the Great Lakes and sharpening up the western ridge even more. System will drag a couple of cold fronts through the state late Wednesday/Wednesday night and then again Thursday/Thursday night but rain chances will be minimal and confined mainly to the northeast quadrant of the state. Less than a tenth of an inch is expected from both these system combined. Upper ridging will build back over the region as the period concludes. Concerning temperatures, the coolest day appears to be Friday behind the second front with but highs will generally be in the 70s and trending upwards over the weekend. Lows are expected to bottom out in the 40s/50s. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1238 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 No major changes to advertise for the 07/06Z TAFs...
