FXUS64 KLUB 070740 AFDLUB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lubbock TX 240 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... - Chilly tonight with areas of frost possible. - Warm, dry, and breezy conditions through mid-week with a brief cool down expected Thursday and Friday behind a passing front. && .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 228 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 Quiet conditions will dominate the region today and tonight. Surface high pressure extending from the Big Bend will keep winds light through the morning. Along with clear skies, this will allow temps to drop to near to just below freezing across much of the FA. While dewpoints in the upper 20s or higher will keep morning temps from cratering, it will allow for frost to develop areawide even if temps remain above freezing. A weak front (in the form of a northerly wind shift with no real effect on temps) will push through the FA by early afternoon as a shortwave trough develops within the northerly upper flow. The shortwave trough will be quickly replaced with upper ridging by the early evening. Winds will continue to remain light today and tonight as surface high pressure continues to dominate Texas. Winds will be mostly out of the south tonight as the aforementioned surface high settles over central Texas and will keep overnight lows in the mid 30s to low 40s. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday through Sunday) Issued at 228 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 A weak upper ridge will gradually build in today, however light northerly surface winds will persist, keeping highs in the mid- to-upper 60s. Low pressure will develop over the Rockies by Wednesday and resultant surface SW flow in our area will warm temperatures into the mid-to-upper 70s. A surface cold front will bring a brief cool down Thursday and Friday, before a stronger ridge will again warm temperatures back up this weekend, with widespread highs in the 90s likely by Sunday. Mostly clear skies will continue through the entire forecast period. && .AVIATION...
