The usual summer type pattern will continue during the middle of 

this week with an upper level ridge hanging out over the 

southwestern US. Although this will result in temperatures above 

seasonal averages, they will be well short of advisory criteria. 

Moisture will be trapped underneath the ridge over the next several 

days but convection will likely be focused in eastern New Mexico 

close to the surface pressure trough. Very light remnant rain 

showers could exist during the morning hours sneaking into the 

western South Plains and southern Texas Panhandle tonight but little 

to no precipitation can be expected. Wednesday will roughly see a 

repeat of today with convection in eastern New Mexico with possible 

light rain showers early Thursday morning.

The upper level ridge will not move much over the next week leading 

to very little variation in daytime temperatures. Mid level moisture 

will continue to be trapped underneath the ridge over West Texas. 

Diurnal storms are expected across the higher terrain of eastern New 

Mexico into southeastern Colorado and the northern Texas Panhandle. 

However, this activity appears unlikely to make it into the South 

Plains.

VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the period. Light to 

moderate southerly winds around 10-15kts will decrease to around 5-

10kts by the late afternoon, shifting out of the southeast. Check 

density altitude.
