FXUS64 KLCH 062307 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 607 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Much cooler and drier air will continue tonight through Tuesday, with a slow warming trend Wednesday and Thursday. - No significant precipitation expected for the remainder of the week. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Tuesday night) Wx map shows the cold front across Southeast Louisiana with northwest winds 10-15 mph behind the front. Cooler air with temperatures ranging through the 50s except near 60/lower 60s over Lower Acadiana. Radar showing lingering light rain just behind the frontal boundary across the coastal waters south of the Atchafalaya River, and another band of light rain further west. A deep layer mid to upper level trough axis from the Great Lakes/Hudson Bay south-southwest to Texas will be slow to move eastward, but expected to eventually do so. This is keeping southwest flow aloft resulting in the lingering low to mid level clouds. In the meantime, the cold air advection brought on by the southward advancing surface high will continue to bring colder temperatures to the region, despite the cloud cover. Monday morning expected low temperatures should range from the lower 40s across Inland Southeast Texas to the lower 50s over Lower Acadiana. For Monday through Tuesday, the mid to upper level trough axis expected to move eastward across Southeast Texas and Louisiana, finally clearing the skies from west to east. Monday afternoon highs mainly in the lower to mid 60s. As the surface high settles over the area Monday night, clear skies and nearly calm winds should allow for Tuesday morning lows near 40/lower 40s north of I-10, mid 40s further south. Slightly warmer afternoon temperatures near 70/lower 70s expected Tuesday afternoon. No precipitation expected. 08/DML && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday through next Saturday) A series of mid to upper level troughs over the Central and Eastern U.S will generally keep a dry northwest flow aloft over the region Wednesday through Saturday. A gradual warming trend is expected Wednesday and Thursday with south to southeast winds bringing more humid and warmer air to the region. Another cool front expected to move through the region Friday. While some increase in low to mid level moisture may become available, very low chances of precipitation is expected (less than 10%) during the frontal passage. Slightly cooler and drier air expected for Friday night into Saturday. 08/DML && .AVIATION...
