FXUS64 KHUN 241502 AFDHUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 1002 AM CDT Fri Oct 24 2025 ...New NEAR TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 1014 PM CDT Thu Oct 23 2025 - Medium to high chances for rain and a few thunderstorms Sunday through Monday with low risk of excessive rainfall. - Low to medium chances for rain linger through mid-week. - Cooler temperatures arrive late next week. && .NEAR TERM... (Rest of Today and Tonight) Issued at 946 AM CDT Fri Oct 24 2025 An zonal upper flow pattern was in place across the eastern CONUS. Troughing along the New England/eastern Canada region was heading more offshore. Another upper level low over the 4-Corners was moving east, resulting in a weak ridging building over the southern states. The system over the southern Rockies was sending scattered high altitude clouds across the SE region. The closest showers in advance of that upper system were occurring west of Little Rock and Shreveport. Locally with generally sunny skies, temperatures as we near 10 AM have risen into the mid/upper 50s with light winds. Daytime heating and subsequent mixing by now has taken care of valley fog that formed before daybreak. Otherwise, no weather of consequence is expected for the remainder of today. Highs later today should rise into the upper 60s to lower 70s, with light NE to east winds. The current forecast is in good shape, no changes are needed at this time. && .SHORT TERM... (Friday night through Sunday night) Issued at 1014 PM CDT Thu Oct 23 2025 Broadening upper ridging will begin to move in as we head toward the weekend and will result in warming temperatures and a gradual increase in moisture. We will maintain a dry forecast through Saturday but will see an increase in clouds especially toward the late afternoon and evening hours. Highs will top out in the low to mid 70s with winds veering to the southeast. An upper low will shift across the central Plains and into the mid MS River Valley on Sunday and will bring increasing chances for rain and a few thunderstorms on Sunday. The highest (50-70%) chances for rain will occur later in the day into the evening and overnight. Model soundings show decent shear aloft at this time but cooler low level temps will lead to poor lapse rates and will work to hinder instability. For that reason, severe storms are not expected but winds could feel breezy at times through the day on Sunday with periods of heavy rainfall as well. Temps will top out in the low to mid 60s with lows in the 50s Sunday night. && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Thursday) Issued at 1014 PM CDT Thu Oct 23 2025 Long term guidance tends to diverge pretty significantly as we get into next week regarding the evolution of an upper low/troughing over the eastern US. This will ultimately lead to cooler temperatures toward the end of the week, but rain chances remain a bit more uncertain due to disagreements on where the better forcing/moisture will line up. For now, we will keep low to medium rain and thunder chances in through Thursday, with the best chances Tuesday into Wednesday. The good news is that there is no strong signal for severe weather or flooding at this time. Highs will generally reach the 60s each afternoon with lows cooling throughout the week, beginning in the 50s but cooling to the 40s toward the later half of the week. It is still pretty early, but signs are pointing to cooler temperatures as we approach Halloween, so be on the lookout for future forecast updates when planning for outdoor activities. && .AVIATION...
