FXUS64 KHGX 072256 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 556 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Tuesday Night) Issued at 331 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 This afternoon's conditions, while perhaps a tad breezy, have otherwise been quite pleasant with afternoon highs climbing into the mid 60s across SE TX and drier air remaining in place over the area. Winds will begin to diminish overnight, becoming light and variable after sunset as surface high pressure drifts overhead. Clear skies will again prove favorable for efficient radiative cooling, with inland locations cooling into the 40s overnight and the immediate coast dropping into the 50s. Yet another pleasant day is in store for Tuesday so long as you don't forget a jacket for the morning commute. Look for more clear skies, dry air in place, and high temperatures increasing into the lower 70s as the loss of a distinct onshore flow reduces cold advection. Overnight lows should also increase slightly as a result, with inland locations in the upper 40s to low 50s and the coast in the lower 60s. Cady && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday through next Sunday) Issued at 331 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 A deep layer trough will dig southward over E CONUS as a ridge builds over W and central CONUS during the second half of the week. This synoptic pattern will generally favor a warming trend, though a little backdoor CAA from the northeast may half or briefly reverse the warming trend on Friday and Saturday. No rain is in the forecast, with skies remaining mostly sunny. Inland highs are expected to average around 80 on Wednesday, before warming into the mid 80s on Thursday (less warm on the coast). Humidity levels will be higher on Thursday as well, but are not expected to be too bad for Gulf Coast standards. Friday is looking a little cooler than Thursday, possibly not getting out of the 70s in our northern counties. But the warming trend likely resumes by the weekend due to an eastward nudge in the amplified pattern, increasing the influence of the aforementioned ridge. In addition, deep onshore flow may resume by the weekend, pushing more humid Gulf air into southeast Texas by the weekend or early next week. Self && .AVIATION... (00Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 553 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 VFR conditions continue with mostly clear skies. Some gusty northwesterly winds will continue through this evening, becoming light and variable overnight through tomorrow for most areas. GLS may have slightly elevated northerly winds (7-10kt) through tonight that become easterly through the day tomorrow. Fowler && .MARINE... Issued at 1229 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 The recent strong northwest winds and hazardous seas have been gradually improving today. This improvement will continue, yielding to a relatively benign weather week along the Upper Texas Coast and adjacent Gulf waters. Beyond today, winds should generally be light to moderate with low seas. Winds are expected to shift onshore Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. A weak front may result in a period of offshore flow on Friday. A larger fetch of southerly winds may establish itself over the western Gulf by the weekend or early next week, possibly increasing swell during that time frame. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
