FXUS64 KHGX 071808 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 108 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Tuesday Night) Issued at 143 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 Cool and dry conditions continue to prevail with temperatures as you step out the door this morning in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Upper level cloud cover is currently increasing as a shortwave trough passes through the area...not enough moisture in place to do anything more than that. Cloud cover clears out later this morning leading to a sunny day with high temperatures in the 60s once again. Surface high pressure slides overhead later today, which will trend those breezy northwesterly winds to become light and variable after sunset. Light winds, dry air, and clear skies is the formula for maximum radiational cooling, so expect another night with low temperatures in the 30s/40s. Tuesday will be a tad bit warmer as 850mb temperatures begin to increase, so expecting highs in the low to mid 70s underneath clear skies. Onshore flow returns going into Tuesday evening, so Tuesday's low temperatures will see a ~10°F increase. We'll be trading out lows in the 30s/40s for lows in the 40s/50s. This got me thinking...when do we usually stop having low temperatures below 50°F? For the City of Houston, our average last day with a low temperature below 50°F is April 17th...and right around that time is our average last day with a high temperature below 70°F as well. So, enjoy the cooler air while we have it...we all know what's on the horizon in a month or so... Batiste && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday through Sunday) Issued at 143 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 Benign weather conditions persist in the long term as high pressure remains in control. Southerly surface winds and generally clear/sunny skies will bring a gradual warming trend through the week and into the weekend. A weak/dry front will attempt to enter the region on Thursday. This will result in even warmer and slightly humid conditions ahead the boundary. Thursday's high will climb into the low to mid 80s. The front will either washes out or reach the coast Thursday night into Friday. No major or significant change in temperatures is anticipated; though the front will bring back a drier airmass. Highs will warm up into the 80s again by Friday, warming up in the mid 80s through the weekend. So it will be warm but not as humid, at least until Sunday. Precipitation-wise, Thursday is the only day we could get isolated light showers, if forcing becomes stronger and low-level moisture increases. At the moment, moisture remains limited and forcing looks to remain further north; therefore, will continue with a dry forecast through the period. JM && .AVIATION... (18Z TAF Issuance) Issued at 106 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 VFR conditions will prevail through the TAF period. A few gusts above 20 knots can be expected this afternoon with winds remaining out of the north. Winds will relax overnight and remain below 10 knots tomorrow. Skies will remain clear for the next several days. Cady && .MARINE... Issued at 143 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 Moderate to strong offshore winds and elevated seas will gradually weaken/subside this morning as the surface high builds over the region today. Small Craft Advisories will continue for all Gulf waters through mid-morning; though a few strong gusts may persist through the afternoon. Latest P-ETSS guidance suggests below water levels during times of low tides today across Galveston Bay. Therefore, a Low Water Advisory is in effect through late this afternoon. Onshore flow resumes on Tuesday as the high shifts to the east; resulting in light winds and low seas through the rest of the week. A weak frontal boundarywill attempt to reach the coast Thursday night into Friday. This front will only bring a wind shift to the north before onshore winds quickly resumes on Saturday. Overall, benign marine conditions are expected this week with little to none rain. JM && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
