FXUS64 KFWD 070023 AFDFWD Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Fort Worth TX 723 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 ...New Short Term, Aviation... .KEY MESSAGES... - A cold night is ahead for all of North and Central Texas. Freezing temperatures are expected west of I-35 with widespread frost areawide. - This work week will be sunny and dry, with afternoon highs warming into the 70s and 80s. && .SHORT TERM... /NEW/ /Through Monday Night/ The trough that brought our inclement weather conditions over the weekend will continue shifting eastward through the rest of the night. This will lead to continued clearing from west to east as northerly winds persist areawide. Gradual radiational cooling is expected with many locations west of I-35 dropping to between 29-32 degrees. The latest guidance did slide the freezing line slightly to the east, therefore minor modifications will be made to the current Freeze Warning. The rest of the region will remain between 33-38 degrees, with the warmest temperatures across East Texas. The air immediately above the surface may cool enough to produce a layer of frost, even with temperatures (~6 feet above ground) in the mid to upper 30s. Therefore, if you have sensitive outdoor vegetation, it might be a good idea to apply a protective cover or bring it indoors for the night. Heading into Monday, cold air advection will be minimal, therefore, airmass modification will lead to afternoon temperatures in the 60s. By tomorrow evening, winds will begin to shift, becoming southerly by midnight Tuesday. The southerly winds will prevent another night with freezing temperatures with much of the region remaining in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Hernandez && .LONG TERM... /Issued 1256 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025/ /Tuesday through Saturday/ Upper-level ridging and coincident surface high pressure is expected to dominate the southern CONUS through this upcoming work week into next weekend. As such, each day should be sunny with highs warming into the 80s by mid week. A glancing blow by a cold front may bring a brief period of cooler temperatures Friday into Saturday morning. Friday afternoon highs may be as low as the lower 70s across northeast Texas, with region-wide lows Friday night dipping down into the low 50s and upper 40s. No rain is expected with this front, as forcing for ascent should remain well to the north and east of the area. Darrah && .AVIATION... /NEW/ /00Z TAFs/ Rapid improvements will commence at all TAF sites as the deck of low clouds shifts east through the rest of the evening.
