FXUS63 KLBF 251144 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 644 AM CDT Sat Oct 25 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Fog is expected this morning, with some areas seeing locally dense fog. - Scattered showers are expected Sunday night through Monday night as a cold front crosses the area. - Cooler temperatures with gusty northwest winds can then be expected Monday afternoon into Tuesday and Wednesday behind the front. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/... Issued at 341 AM CDT Sat Oct 25 2025 Will continue the Dense Fog Advisory this morning across the Sandhills through central and into southwest Nebraska. Not the world's best set up for dense fog, as a veil of high cloudiness is working its way northward, but this has been showing signs of thinning. Visibility has been slow to drop beneath the veil, but has become dense on the western edge of the higher clouds. There is also a lower stratus deck beneath the higher clouds. Overall it's a little bit of a complicated scenario, and won't expand the dense fog advisory northward. Will, however, issue a Special Weather Statement across north central Nebraska where at least some fog is expected. Could be locally dense, especially on the western edge of the stratus cloud deck around the Valentine area. Otherwise, low cloudiness will likely linger through much of the day, especially along and southeast of an O'Neill to North Platte line. This will impact highs, with cloudy areas struggling into the upper 50s. Meanwhile, northwest Nebraska, will again see near full sunshine and highs reaching near 70 degrees. Not seeing as much as a signal for fog tonight. With the low-level moisture in the area could see some patches, but as low-level southerly flow increases through the night the overall fog potential should be limited. A mainly cloudy day is expected across most of the area Sunday. Surface low pressure will deepen though the day across South Dakota, as a broad upper trough approaches the central and northern plains from the west. South winds will become gusty as the surface pressure gradient tightens. && .LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/... Issued at 341 AM CDT Sat Oct 25 2025 The system Sunday night into Monday continues to look on track. A broad upper trough will sweep from the northern Rockies and cross the central and northern plains Sunday night through Monday night. Low-level moisture will be in place with surface dew points in the upper 40s ahead of a cold front that will be moving into western Nebraska by Monday morning. Scattered showers are still expected Sunday night through Monday night. Broad scale ascent increases as jet dynamics associated with the upper trough pivot eastward across the area. The mentioned a cold front will sweep across the area Monday afternoon with gusty northwest winds developing. Winds decouple some Monday night but then increase again due to deep mixing during the day Tuesday. Surface high pressure settles into the area Tuesday night into Wednesday with a dry airmass in place. Sub-freezing lows will be likely most locations Tuesday night through Thursday night. High temperatures most of next week look to generally be in the 50s. Coolest Tuesday when some highs may stay in the upper 40s. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 639 AM CDT Sat Oct 25 2025 Areas of fog and IFR can be expected this morning, generally along and east of a VTN to OGA line. IFR to MVFR ceilings will linger much of the day east of this line. Spreading back westward some tonight. Winds will gradually become gusty from the south to southeast, especially across the Sandhills and northern Nebraska this afternoon into tonight. && .LBF WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
