FXUS63 KLBF 191723 AFDLBF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 1223 PM CDT Tue Aug 19 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Warm and dry conditions are expected to prevail through Thursday. - Shower and thunderstorm chances increase Thursday night into Friday with the arrival of a cold front. - Cooler and perhaps showery weather are expected for the weekend as Canadian high pressure settles southward into the region. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH THURSDAY/... Issued at 345 AM CDT Tue Aug 19 2025 Upper level ridging/rising heights build across the Rockies and plains today through Thursday. This will bring an end to precipitation chances for a few days. The next chance for rainfall will come Thursday night. It will continue to be on the warm and rather humid side through Thursday as well. At the surface, high pressure will drift eastward across the area today. Light and variable winds this morning will gradually shift around to the southeast this afternoon...as the center of the high moves toward the Missouri River Valley region. With the light winds and residual low-level moisture across the area, patchy to areas of fog are expected across portions of eastern north central and into central Nebraska this morning. These areas are to the east of a weak stationary front, and dew points are running in the upper 60s to lower 70s to the east of the front. West of the front the air is a bit drier, with dew points in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Although there could be a little patchy fog in low lying areas to the west of the front, the more widespread fog potential will reside east of the boundary in the above mentioned areas. Wednesday, surface high pressure will remain anchored east of the area. Southeast low-level flow will continue across the area. Attention turns to fire weather, as dew points mix out across the Panhandle into the upper 40s to around 50. This will allow humidity values to fall to around 23 to 33%. The limiting factor for more of a concern will be the lack of winds, as speeds will remain generally in the 10-15 mph range. Thursday is more of the same, with humidity falling to around 25% but winds remaining on the lighter side. && .LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 345 AM CDT Tue Aug 19 2025 A strong shortwave crosses southern Canada Thursday night into Friday, with a cold front will be driven southward into the area. A somewhat cooler day with highs in the 80s are expected Friday. Cooler yet as we head into the weekend as surface high pressure from Canada settles into the area Sunday into Monday. Showers and thunderstorms are possible with the arrival of the front Thursday night. As the front lingers across the area Friday, additional chances for rainfall will exist. The front then settles farther to the south Saturday into the first of next week. Rather cool and potentially showery weather (especially across southwest Nebraska) will exist during this time. As the high settles into the area from Canada, it appears highs may struggle into the lower 70s across parts of the area Monday. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z WEDNESDAY/...
