FXUS63 KIWX 250557 AFDIWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Northern Indiana 157 AM EDT Sat Oct 25 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Cold again tonight with lows generally in the low 30s. - Temperatures moderate slightly over the weekend but remain cool. - The next chance of rain arrives during the middle of next week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 204 PM EDT Fri Oct 24 2025 Light winds and mainly clear skies for much of the night should allow temps to fall to near freezing CWA-wide early Saturday with frost anticipated within a low level ridge axis. Only limiting factor could be some mid-high level clouds overspreading later tonight. Opted for a FZ.W for our IN and OH counties. A lower amplitude shortwave, currently near the North Dakota and Manitoba border, will dampen southeast through the western and lower Great Lakes Saturday into Saturday night. This wave will bring mid- high level clouds to the area during this time, also acting to block an upper low and more appreciable moisture to the southwest across the southern Plains east toward the MO/AR border. The result should be dry wx and seasonably cool easterly winds locally this weekend. A complex upper level pattern looks to materialize next week with an model consensus favoring primarily dry/cool low level easterly flow between high pressure to the north and disorganized low pressure drifting east toward the TN and lower OH Valleys. Additional pacific jet energy and a leading pv anomaly does look to induce cyclogenesis somewhere over the OH/TN Valleys mid week, potentially transferring to an east coast system. Confidence in details is very low on how this system evolves. At this point, troughing does look to dominate for the mid-late week periods with temps averaging below seasonal normals. A model consensus would favor better prospects for soaking rains to be south and east of the region, though daily chances for sct showers can't be ruled out as numerous smaller scale vorts swing through the trough axis. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z SUNDAY/... Issued at 155 AM EDT Sat Oct 25 2025 No major changes made with the 06 TAF issuance. Fog potential overnight continues to be the primary forecast concern. Incoming low level ridge axis has resulted in light and variable/calm winds, with a few regional observations reporting some visibility restrictions in patchy shallow fog due to strong radiational cooling. This potential may manifest itself more in the way of frost development. Confidence in prolonged vsby restrictions at terminals remains quite low and will continue with VFR forecast for now. It is possible some TEMPO mention may be needed overnight into early Saturday morning however. Otherwise, some mid level WAA clouds in advance of next short wave will overspread terminals during the day. Light east-southeast winds are also expected as the low level ridge axis shifts east of northern Indiana. && .IWX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
