FXUS63 KIWX 190510 AFDIWX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Northern Indiana 110 AM EDT Thu Mar 19 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Isolated rain showers this morning. - Unseasonably mild Friday through Sunday with highs in the 60s to around 70. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 238 PM EDT Wed Mar 18 2026 Light snow was ending from west to east across the forecast area as subsidence and as strong warm and dry air advection was drying out the upper cloud layer. Additional snowfall totals will be less than one half of inch, even with the measured 20:1 ratio at the NWS office here. Traffic websites indicated accidents earlier over northeast Indiana, so indications are that light precipitation was causing vehicle mishaps. Temperatures will rise a few to several degrees above freezing and should help improve ongoing slippery roads that were mainly east of I-69 this afternoon. As for this upcoming night, warm air advection with a relatively dry mid layer accompanied by a weak short wave trof will bring clouds and light precipitation. Surface temperatures are expected to dip a degree or two below freezing at the colder locations (mostly far southern Lower Michigan). At this time, it look like with the light precipitation and milder lows (30F-34F) should help limit any impacts. Strong warm air advection in the lower and mid levels will bring dramatic warming over the entire area the next 2 days. Temperatures should be 20 to 25 degrees warmer Friday then today with highs Friday from 65 to around 70 along and south of Highway 30. The GFS is very active with front racing south Sunday. Confidence is low on the timing and the potential instability Sunday that could cause more widespread storms (a squall line/linear coverage). Temperatures Monday will be a few to several degrees below normal. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 108 AM EDT Thu Mar 19 2026 A robust dry layer near 6k FT AGL will preclude any measurable rainfall as a clipper passes through this morning. The existing TAFs were in good shape and carry on at this time. && .IWX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... IN...None. OH...None. MI...None. MARINE...None. && $$ DISCUSSION...Skipper AVIATION...Brown
