Lows tonight are expected to be in the mid to upper 20s (HREF has 60-100% chance of temperatures at or below 28F by dawn Tue over much of CWA. A freeze warning is in effect from midnight tonight until 9 am Tuesday from Rushville to Danville south where the growing season has started. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 245 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 Continued the Freeze Warning from Schuyler to Mason to Logan to DeWitt to Piatt to Champaign and Vermilion counties south from midnight tonight until 9 am Tuesday with lows of 24-28F expected. Mid afternoon surface analysis shows a cold front southeast of a Terre Haute to Flora line in southeast IL with brisk NW to NNW winds behind the front with gusts 22 to 32 mph. Scattered to broken stratocumulus clouds were along and ne of a Quad City to Taylorville to Flora line with very light showers in northern/ne IL into nw IN and se WI, northeast of LaSalle/Peru. Temps at 230 pm ranged from 45F in Galesburg to near 60F along highway 50 in far southeast IL. The latest CAMs suite shows the cold front clearing se of Lawrence county in next hour while spotty very light showers form over eastern IL late afternoon and early evening and could be mixed with light snow but no accumulations. Clouds and winds to diminish during this evening and set our area up for a frosty night as Canadian high pressure settles into IL Tue morning. HREF has 50-100% chance of lows at or below 28F by dawn Tue over the CWA with the northern cWA the coldest around 25F. Though the growing season has not quite started over northern 8 counties thus they do not have a freeze warning despite getting a widespread freeze overnight into mid Tue morning. High pressure provides ample sunshine and lighter winds on Tue over CWA but temps still 10-15 degrees below normal with highs in the upper 40s to around 50F. A weather system over the Pacific Northwest to track quickly into northern MO by Wed afternoon and spread chances of rain showers into the IL river valley overnight Tue night especially late Tue night. Low pressure to track into central IL by sunset Wed and bring likely chances of showers Wed and Wed evening and an isolated thunderstorm possible, but no severe storms expected due to lack of instability. Far ne CWA would see light snow mixed with light rain early Wed morning if pcpn moves in that quickly. Shower chances diminish later Wed evening and overnight Wed night as cold front pushes east of area. Lows Tue night in the lower 30s eastern IL and upper 30s in western CWA. Highs Wed in the mid to upper 50s eastern IL and lower 60s western CWA with breezy south winds gusting 20-30 mph. Rainfall amounts Wed and Wed evening around a quarter inch or less as not much gulf moisture working into this system over central IL. A deepening upper level trof into IL Thu and short wave trof pivoting down into the mid MS river valley to bring a good chance of showers Thu afternoon. NW winds and cloud cover to keep temps cooler on Thu with highs in the upper 50s/lower 60s and possibly cooler especially ne CWA. Strong upper level trof shifts east of IL later Friday into Saturday and temps to start warming up for the weekend. The strong upper level ridge will be over IL on Sunday and bring dry weather much of this weekend along with warmer temps. Scattered to broken stratocumulus clouds with bases of 3.5-5k ft to affect the I-74 airports this afternoon and could see broken ceilings near DEC during mid afternoon.
