FXUS63 KICT 071801 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 101 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 ...Updated Aviation Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Breezy southerly winds Tuesday followed by breezy northerly winds Wed-Thu. - Mild and dry with warm and windy conditions expected next weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 143 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 A shortwave trough digging over the Great Lakes area will drive a subtle frontal boundary southward into eastern Kansas this afternoon and early evening. This front is expected to have a minimal impact on sensible weather across our forecast area with the better low level cold air advection progged to remain across northeast Kansas while we still anticipate rising heights/increasing thickness supporting moderating temperatures over the area this afternoon with seasonable highs in the 60s. Any brief intrusion of cooler air is expected to be short-lived with some low level warm air advection progged to develop as we move through the overnight hours. Tue-Wed...Breezy southerly winds will return to the region on Tue with support for moderating temperatures once again. Above average temperatures are expected with highs ranging from near 70 in far southeast KS to the upper 70s in central KS. Another subtle shortwave trough moving across the Northern Plains will drive a frontal boundary southward over the area on Wed. Above average temperatures will still prevail with highs in the mid 70s. Thu...another progressive clipper system will send a reinforcing shot of cooler air south over the area on Thursday but confidence in wetting rain remains low at this time. Highs will remain mild with breezy northwest winds and anticipated highs in the low 70s. Fri-Sun...Another pleasant day is expected on Friday as the mid/upper ridge begins to amplify over the Rockies. Southerly flow is progged to return from west to east with seasonably mild highs in the low 70s. A warming trend will follow with highs climbing into the 80s over the weekend. Breezy southerly winds will prevail with dry weather conditions expected. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z TUESDAY/... Issued at 1256 PM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 VFR conditions will prevail for most the next 24 hours. The only caveat is RSL, where visibilities and/or ceilings will be reduced in smoke periodically this afternoon due to a prescribed burn north-northeast of the airport. Otherwise, modest to breezy northwest to northeast winds will prevail this afternoon, switching to southeasterly tonight, and becoming breezy/gusty by mid-late morning Tuesday. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 143 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 A very high grassland fire danger is expected over central Kansas on Tuesday afternoon as breezy southerly winds return to the area. Breezy northwest winds will develop on Thursday in the wake of a cold front. Above normal temperatures combined with minimum relative humidity around 20 percent will result in a very high grassland fire danger over central Kansas. Warm and windy conditions will develop this weekend leading to a very high fire danger, especially on Sunday across much of the area. && .ICT WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...None. && $$ DISCUSSION...MWM AVIATION...ADK FIRE WEATHER...MWM
