FXUS63 KICT 061916 AFDICT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 216 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Cool tonight with lows near freezing. A Freeze Warning has been issued through Monday morning. - Mild and dry weather anticipated to last through this week. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 216 PM CDT Sun Apr 6 2025 Water vapor imagery this afternoon indicates strong mid/upper flow spanning from ArkLaTex toward the Great Lakes as weak winds aloft settle in over the Central Plains. At the surface, high pressure has built in over Kansas and driven periods of breezy north winds over the forecast area so far today. These are expected to weaken through the remainder of the day before becoming light and variable overnight. With little to no cloud coverage anticipated alongside these light winds, radiational cooling is expected to result in temperatures near to below freezing tonight. As such, a Freeze Warning has been issued for the entire forecast area through Monday morning. Highs Monday afternoon are expected to reach the mid 60s areawide. As the upper ridge slides eastward, dry and warming conditions are expected with highs near 70 by Tuesday. A mid-level shortwave racing over the Northern Plains will bring a cold front through the area Wednesday. Current mid-range model consensus keeps precipitation chances to our east, so this boundary will primarily serve to bring temperatures down slightly on Thursday (low 70s) before they rebound back into the middle to upper 70s to close out the week. && .AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z MONDAY/...
