FXUS63 KGRB 051953 AFDGRB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 253 PM CDT Tue May 5 2026 Forecast discussion for routine afternoon forecast issuance .KEY MESSAGES... - Cool temperatures the next couple days, with Frost headlines anticipated for central WI, the Fox Valley and lakeshore areas tonight and Wednesday night. - Only minor precipitation chances expected this week, with minimal impacts until at least Tuesday. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 252 PM CDT Tue May 5 2026 An extensive areas of stratocumulus clouds covered locations northwest of the Fox Valley and lakeshore areas this afternoon. Deep mixing resulted in breezy conditions, with west winds gusting to 20 to 30 mph. Temperatures ranged from the lower 40s far northwest to the lower to middle 50s southeast. Frost Headlines Tonight and Wednesday night: Expecting low temperatures to drop into the lower to middle 30s in central WI, the Fox Valley and lakeshore areas the next two nights. Although temperatures could briefly drop below freezing in central WI both nights, the short duration should prevent a hard freeze in most areas. Have issued a Frost Advisory for our counties that have entered the active growing season, and would anticipate similar headlines tomorrow night. Precipitation Chances: Several short-wave troughs will move through the region during the rest of the work week, but the best chance of showers looks to occur during the late morning through mid-afternoon on Thursday. Other notable precipitation chances occur with a cold frontal passage on Saturday, and with a clipper low pressure system and associated cold front next Tuesday into Tuesday night. This last system looks to be the most potent, with more available moisture and possibly some elevated instability. At the least, would anticipate more widespread shower activity. In between the light rain chances, brief periods of elevated fire weather conditions will occur in association with deep mixing, low relative humidity, moderate winds and increasingly volatile springtime fuels. Temperatures: With persistent northwest flow aloft bringing reinforcing shots of Canadian air into the region, temperatures will remain below normal to near normal through the next week. && .AVIATION...for 18Z TAF Issuance Issued at 1214 PM CDT Tue May 5 2026 VFR conditions are expected through the TAF period.
