An upper trough extends from eastern Canada southwestward to Texas. A cold front has moved into northeast Nebraska and will continue to move southward today. Winds across south central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas will shift towards the northeast as the front moves into the area. High temperatures today will range from the low 50s to mid 60s. Winds will shift to the southeast tonight with low temperatures in the mid 20s to mid 30s with clear to mostly clear skies. Tuesday through Wednesday night... Winds on Tuesday will increase out of the south then start to become westerly as a surface trough to the west expands eastward. Temperatures will be warmest along the surface trough. High temperatures Tuesday will range from the mid 60s to the low 80s. Minimum relative humidity values for areas generally west of the Tri- Cities will be around 17 to 25 percent. These humidity values coupled with wind gusts of around 20 mph could result in near critical to critical fire weather conditions Tuesday. Winds will begin to shift towards the northwest Tuesday night with low temperatures in the low 40s to low 50s. There is a 15% to around 20% chance of rain showers primarily north of the Tri-Cities area Tuesday night as the front moves into the area. The northwesterly winds will continue into Wednesday with a 15% to 20% chance of rain showers mostly in Valley County during the afternoon. High temperatures on Wednesday will range from the mid 60s to mid 70s. Near critical fire weather conditions will be possible on Wednesday as wind gusts approach 20 mph and widespread 20 to 25 percent humidity is expected. Northwesterly winds will continue into Wednesday night with low temperatures in the upper 30s to mid 40s. Rain chances (15% to less than 25%) will spread further southward Wednesday night across south central Nebraska. Thursday through Sunday... Winds will turn more northerly across south central and central Nebraska and north central Kansas under the backside of an upper trough on Thursday. These northerly winds will bring slightly cooler temperatures with highs in the low/mid 60s to low 70s. Wind gusts during the afternoon are expected to range from around 20 mph to 40 mph. Minimum relative humidity values Thursday will generally be around 15 to 20 percent southwest and west of the Tri-Cities area. This may lead to near critical to critical fire weather conditions in the above mentioned area on Thursday. Clear skies are expected Thursday night with lows mostly in the 30s. A big upper trough will be over the eastern half of the country on Friday. Temperatures will warm up slightly from the previous day with highs in the mid 60s to mid 70s. Winds on Friday will be quite a bit lighter than the previous day which will diminish the fire weather threat. Low temperatures Friday night will mainly be in the 40s. A further warmup is expected on Saturday with winds increasing out of the south and temperatures warming up into the mid 70s to low 80s. Overnight temperatures will be on a warming trend as well with lows Saturday night in the mid 40s to mid 50s.
