FXUS63 KDVN 070807 AFDDVN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Quad Cities IA IL 307 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Windy and cold day today with highs barely in the 40s and lows well below freezing. Some sprinkles and flurries cannot be ruled out. - Precip chances return to the area midweek through the end of the week. Rainfall amounts continue to look light and not that impactful. - After today, temperatures begin a slow warming trend into the weekend. && .SHORT TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/... Issued at 307 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 A cold front will move into the area this morning bringing colder and drier air to the area. H85 temps near -10C are expected during peak heating today. While we should have decent sun after the front moves through, cold air aloft will keep temperatures cold today. Decent mixing along with CAA will bring 10-20mph winds with gusts near 30 mph. This will make today feel chilly and blustery. Forcing along this front along with some pooling of moisture along it may lead to some sprinkles and flurries today especially east of the Mississippi River. Tonight the well advertised temperatures below freezing continue to be on track. Lows in the low to mid 20s are expected. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/... Issued at 307 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 Surface ridge will be in place on Tuesday. The day will start out cold but with the ridge in place light winds are expected. Temperatures will be warmer than today and it will be like yesterday. So a good day to get out and go for a walk. As the ridge moves off to the southeast and upstream steering flow flattens, increasing return flow both at the sfc and especially aloft may generate a wing of showers somewhere acrs the region from late Tue night into Wed. As mentioned earlier, some of the guidance has dynamic cooling and some snow with this wing of precip. The best chance for any frozen precip Tuesday night into Wednesday would be across our NW in NC IL where lows near freezing are forecast. Guidance continues to show an active pattern through the rest of the week. We continue to see chances for frozen precip from dynamical cooling Wednesday night as well. Overall QPF is light so impacts look to be very minimal if any. && .AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z TUESDAY/... Issued at 1231 AM CDT Mon Apr 7 2025 VFR conditions are expected through the period. A wind shift will occur towards daybreak and bring gusty winds to all TAF sites that should last through the day. && .CLIMATE...
