FXUS62 KKEY 211552 AFDKEY Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Key West FL 1152 AM EDT Sat Mar 21 2026 ...New DISCUSSION, MARINE, AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... - Light to gentle breezes expected through the remainder of the weekend. - Mainly dry conditions along with near-normal temperatures expected through early next week. - Despite recent rainfall this week, moderate drought conditions persist for the entire island chain. These conditions may worsen over the next several days. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1123 AM EDT Sat Mar 21 2026 The 12z sounding at KEY sampled a dry adiabatic, well-mixed profile from the surface up to around 900 mb, capped by a weak temperature inversion above. Calculated atmospheric-integrated total precipitable water product was around 0.50 inches, well- below the 10th percentile for the date and time of day. It should come as no surprise that GOES-19 visible satellite imagery is struggling to detect cloud cover across the Florida Keys, with only scattered cloud cover across the eastern Straits of Florida. The forecast calls for nil rain chances and ample sunshine. A mainly northerly component to the breezes will prevent much in the way of moderating temperatures, likely peaking in the mid 70s, several degrees below normal for this time of year. No changes proposed. && .PREV DISCUSSION... Issued at 359 AM EDT Sat Mar 21 2026 As high pressure continues to be the main feature dominating the weather for the Florida Keys, not much is expected to change over the coming days. Due to the dry air over the area, near nil rain chances are expected and mostly clear skies. As the pressure gradient loses its grip light to gentle winds will stick around for most of the week. This should play out to be a nice first half week but stay tuned for any updates. && .MARINE... Issued at 1123 AM EDT Sat Mar 21 2026 There are currently no watches, warnings, or advisories in effect across the Florida Keys coastal waters. From synopsis, light to gentle breezes will prevail into early next week, as ridging weakens the pressure gradient. Along with light to gentle breezes, dry air will limit shower activity. && .AVIATION... (15Z TAFS) Issued at 1123 AM EDT Sat Mar 21 2026 VFR conditions will prevail at both island terminals through 12z Sunday morning, with nil rain chances. Near-surface winds out of the north to northeast will occasionally gust to near 18 knots through early afternoon, with gusts becoming less frequent and diminishing thereafter. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
