FXUS62 KFFC 242344 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 744 PM EDT Fri Oct 24 2025 ...New 00Z Aviation Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 726 PM EDT Fri Oct 24 2025 - Dry Autumn conditions will continue through Saturday. - A Fire Danger Statement is in effect through early evening today for much of north Georgia and portions of east-central Georgia due to dry fuels and RH below 25%. Similar fire danger conditions will be likely once again on Saturday. - Rain chances and cooler conditions will return starting late Sunday and continue through midweek. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Saturday) Issued at 726 PM EDT Fri Oct 24 2025 Pleasant Autumn conditions continue through Saturday across North and Central Georgia courtesy of subtle mid-level ridging and surface high pressure over the area. Skies will be mostly sunny each day, as a very dry airmass combined with the subsidence from these features will prevent any notable cloud cover. One downside of the dry airmass is that it will lead to fire danger concerns each day across portions of the area, as afternoon humidity drops to around 25% and dry fuels persist. Winds will be on the lighter side, however, preventing the fire concerns from getting too high. High temperatures will climb to the low to mid 70s across most of the area today, and will only be a few degrees cooler on Saturday. Tonight's lows will be pretty similar to slightly warmer than what we saw this morning, generally dropping to the low to mid 40s across north GA, and mid to upper 40s across central GA. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday morning through next Thursday) Issued at 726 PM EDT Fri Oct 24 2025 Late Sunday through midweek will bring the potential for rain across north and central Georgia. That said, a "messy" mid-/upper- level pattern will make for a somewhat tricky forecast when it comes to timing of peak rain chances and rainfall amounts. Starting on Sunday, ensemble guidance depicts a closed low/vorticity max drifting eastward across the Lower Mississippi River Valley. This feature is progged to generally become less defined as it continues eastward on Monday. The result will be a broad region of ascent with associated cloud cover and showers (with isolated storms possible). Noticeably cooler daytime conditions will be in place Sunday through Tuesday (with help from the cold air damming "wedge" on Monday and Tuesday) with highs generally in the mid-50s to upper 60s. A larger-scale trough passing over and an associated cold front passage are progged to bring the potential for rain Tuesday and Wednesday, but ensemble guidance shows PWAT lacking relative to the disturbance on Sunday and Monday. At this time, there is no thunder in the forecast for this midweek rain potential. Highs generally in the mid-50s to upper 60s will persist, with lows in the upper 30s to lower 40s through the end of the week. Total rainfall through the period is a challenging forecast component, as the messy mid-/upper-level pattern suggests a weak surface low pressure system and thus uncertainty regarding where rainfall maxima will occur. Notably, there is up to around 1 inch of spread between the 25th and 75th quartiles for rainfall amounts in the ensemble guidance, which highlights this uncertainty. Our QPF (quantitative precip forecast) has increased from the forecast package issued overnight, but even if around 1 inch of rain falls across much of north and central Georgia like is currently forecast, the drought conditions will likely remain the same. In fact, it will take several of these pushes of rainfall to make a significant dent in our worsening drought. && .AVIATION...
