FXUS61 KCAR 241232 AFDCAR Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Caribou ME 832 AM EDT Fri Oct 24 2025 .SYNOPSIS... An upper level low slowly lifts up to our north today. High pressure slowly builds across to our north through the weekend into early next week. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY/... 830AM Update: Observations reported thick patchy fog in lower terrain and river valleys. Added patchy fog back into the forecast for the rest of the early morning. This should decrease throughout the morning. Otherwise, the rest of the forecast looks good. Previous Discussion: Upper level trough remains across the eastern portion of the nation today. Expect partly sunny skies today with afternoon highs in the low to mid 50s across the north and mid to upper 50s for the Bangor region and Downeast. A weak upper disturbance moving through the region will result in mainly cloudy skies tonight. A few showers are possible, mainly for the Bangor region and Downeast, where a surface trough will be located providing some weak lift. Moisture is limited, so any rain that does fall will be a few hundreths at best. Saturday will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy and dry, as some weak ridging aloft builds in across. Afternoon highs on Saturday will range from the upper 40s to lower 50s across the north and mid 50s for the Bangor region and Downeast. && .SHORT TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/... Vertically stacked low and associated trough move northeast through the weekend, causing unsettled weather and periods of light rain showers. Upper-level shortwave from the west tracks east Saturday night, bringing a chance of light rain to northern Maine. Plenty of low-level moisture, so anticipating mostly cloudy skies and a potential for river valley fog to develop. West/northwesterly winds that are relatively light. Sunday into Sunday night, surface ridging builds-in from the west, as upper-level cutoff low settles over New England. Temperatures do go cold enough overnight that there could be a few snowflakes that fall late this weekend in the early morning period, but not enough for any accumulation. Daytime highs in the mid-to-upper 40s in the north, and 50s along the coast. Overnight lows Saturday night and Sunday night in the 30s across northern and eastern Maine. && .LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Cutoff low sticks in Maine, before interacting with a vertically stacked low system in the mid-west. From here, low system interacts with another low along the waters, sliding up along the Maine coast, bringing another round of rain for northern and eastern Maine later next week as a Rex Block pattern with high pressure to the north develops. Cannot rule of some snow flakes in the early mornings. High temperatures generally in the 40s and 50s along the coast, and lows generally in the 30s. && .AVIATION /12Z FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
