.DISCUSSION...



Locally elevated fire danger is expected this weekend, especially

Sunday west of I-29 with southerly wind gusts of 35-40 mph.

However, minimum RH values of 40-60% should temper widespread

concerns and critical fire danger. Cooler conditions and lighter

winds keep concerns a bit lower today. 



Widespread rain chances return to the region Monday and Tuesday,

with rainfall amounts over half an inch possible. Seasonal

temperatures continue through next week, with periodic breezy

conditions. Although confidence in precip chances past Tuesday

night is low, mid to late next week should be mostly dry.

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the moderate 

category this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or 

lowering moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic 

material on the ground, indicate that there is some potential 

for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be closely 

monitored.



OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index

will reach the high category. 



The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native

grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor

will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.

this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture 

content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the 

ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is 

low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be 

with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.
